Feeling Ignored??

Below is a poem by Hemdan in Egypt, who wrote The Greatest Pain in Life in Arabic and translated it into English. http://www.evancarmichael.com/Work-Life/1864/Feeling-Ignored.html

The Greatest Pain in Life

The greatest pain in life is not to die, but to be ignored

To lose the person you love so much to another who doesn’t care at all

The greatest pain in life, is not to die, but to be forgotten

When you show someone your innermost thoughts and he laughs in your face

For friends to always be too busy to console you when you need someone to lift your spirits

When it seems like the only person who cares about you, is you

Life is full of pain, but does it ever get better?

Will people ever care about each other, and make time for those who are in need?

Each of us has a part to play in this great play we call life

Each of us has a duty to mankind to tell our friends we love them

If you do not care about your friends you will not be punished

You will simply be ignored… forgotten… as you have done to others

Ignorance/모름/無知: a lack of knowledge or information about something. ~ Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary

Many of us would have encountered the phrase “Ignorance is bliss”. The meaning is if you do not know about something, you do not need to worry about it. This implies ignorance is not necessarily good or necessarily bad.

To Ignore: 1. To pay no attention to something, 2. To pretend that you have not seen somebody or that somebody is not there. ~ Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary

From http://www.evancarmichael.com/Work-Life/1864/Feeling-Ignored.html some ways to change your feeling of being ignored.

Step 1: Recall a specific incident where, as a child, you had the thought that you were unimportant. Maybe some kids excluded you at lunch or when picking sides for team sports. Maybe a teacher didn’t notice your skills. Perhaps you grew up in a crowded home with a lot of siblings demanding the limited attention of your parent(s). Maybe you had a sibling who was the smart one or the pretty one or the athletic one—the one who got noticed.

Step 2: Give your inner child reassurance that being ignored had nothing to do with him and that he matters even now to you.

Step 3: There’s a saying: It’s never too late to have a happy childhood. Start treating yourself the way you wish you had been treated. That means paying attention to your wants and needs, your likes and dislikes, and doing what makes you happy. Make your first question in the morning be, “What would make me happy today?” Maybe it’s buying new, brighter clothes that attract attention. Maybe it involves participating more in your community. Maybe it is asking for a promotion or joining a club. Whatever it is, commit to following through so that your inner child isn’t subjected to more of that invisibility. The gift of being truthful about your pain is that you can now do something for yourself to alleviate it. You deserve to feel special and to know that you matter.

Being ignored is not necessarily the same as being rejected. You feel like you don’t count. Even big shots are ignored sometimes. Consciously look for changes in a person. And if you’re one of those people who feel ignored, please take solace in knowing that unfortunately, in our ever-faster-paced society, the human touch is often a casualty. There are plenty of unquestionably worthy people who too are being ignored. The best thing you can do is to stop feeling sorry for yourself.

smile

Senyum is the Indonesian word for Smile/미소/微笑み/微笑: The expression that you have on your face when you are happy, amused, etc. in which the corners of your mouth turn upwards. ~ Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary.

A smile is a curve that sets everything straight. ~ Phyllis Diller

A smile is an inexpensive way to change your looks. ~ Charles Gordy

If you smile when no one else is around, you really mean it. ~ Andy Rooney

Even if the smile looks silly, it is a smile, it is the intention that matters. Smile is like an unspoken language. People take smile for granted, from medical perspective, being angry or not happy can actually shorten our lifetime, a smile can cool down our mind.

A smile can be spontaneous or artificial. The artificial one looks awkward. Try your best to smile spontaneously. Let those muscles move!

equilibrium, Quote

Equilibrium: 1) A state of balance; especially between opposing forces or influences. 2) A calm state of mind and a balance of emotions ~ Oxford Advanced Learner’s Dictionary.

I am not gonna talk about equilibrium as in Mechanical equilibrium/정적 평형 상태, Thermodynamic equilibrium/熱力学的平衡/ภาวะสมดุลทางอุณหพลศาสตร์/熱平衡, Chemical equilibrium/화학 평형/平衡/化学平衡, Dynamic equilibrium/動的平衡/동적 평형 상태 or Economic equilibrium/均衡/經濟均衡.

Life is like a coin, spend it any way you choose, but you can only spend it once ~ Lillian Dickson

A little knowledge that acts is worth infinitely more than much knowledge that is idle ~ Khalil Gibran

Those who do not find time for exercise will have to find time for illness ~ Earl of Derby

Intelligence without ambition is a bird without wings ~ Salvador Dalí

A state of balance between mind, emotions and body is very important in life because these three are interdependent with each other.

A balance is also needed in interpersonal relationship/人間関係/人際關係/인간 관계, just now above was about “intrapersonal” relationship. Interpersonal relationship is in the form of limerence, love, solidarity, regular business interactions, or some other type of social commitment. Relationship must be in equilibrium, whereby the two parties must give something to each other in order to strengthen the bond. It is sometimes very hard when more than one factor (emotion (heart), mind) come in contact with relationship. In any case, be calm and don’t take rush actions, cause the friction it may cause might weaken the relationship.
